Join William J. Perry, the 19th U.S. Secretary of Defense, for an upcoming talk. Dr. Perry will discuss his new book, The Button: The New Nuclear Arms Race and Presidential Power from Truman to Trump. The event will include a Q&A session—a unique opportunity for participants to have a conversation with a leading expert on foreign policy, national security, arms control, and nuclear weapons.

About the Speaker

Dr. Perry’s book is the latest in a series of books, articles, multi-media presentations, and courses that engage with professionals, students, and the public on the risks of nuclear weapons to the existence of civilization and life on the planet.

In addition to government, Dr. Perry has worked in industry as the president of a defense electronics firm and led a Silicon Valley technology-focused investment bank. He has a distinguished academic career and serves as the Michael and Barbara Berberian Professor (emeritus) at Stanford University and senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute and the Hoover Institution; and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Perry is the recipient of numerous distinguished awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is a Penn State alumnus with a Ph.D. in mathematics.
